Nourishing Soft Tissue
During this workshop you will work with a partner to leam highly effective techniques that have an immediate and powerful effect on muscle and connective tissue. Leslie combines her knowledge of Myofascial Release, Therapeutic Massage, and Active Assisted Stretching to help individuals learn to apply precise pressure and movement during a specific stretch performed in multiple planes of movement.
The goal is to appeal to the autonomic nervous system in a way that leads to spontaneous release of the injured muscle, thus regaining the original resting length of that muscle. The result: fast and permanent reorganization of scar tissue, the targeted muscle(s) retum to the proper resting length, muscle imbalances are corrected, associated pain is decreased, and muscle performance is improved. Results are often obtained quickly and permanently. These techniques can be applied to soft tissue injuries in both acute and chronic situations.
Almost everyone can benefit from taking care of the soft tissue - the muscles, ligaments and tendons - in the neck, back, legs, buttock, and around the spine. The spinal column and its contiguous muscles, ligaments and tendons are all designed to move, and limitations in this motion can make neck, back and hip pain worse.
Individuals with ongoing muscle pain may find it takes weeks or months of stretching and other back exercises to mobilize the spine and soft tissues, but will find that meaningful and sustained relief of back pain will usually follow with increase in motion.
Helpful tips for this activity:
Wear comfortable clothes that won't bind;
Stretching should be pain free; do not force the body into difficult positions;
Move into a stretch slowly and avoid bouncing, which may actually tear muscles;
Hold exercises long enough (20-30 seconds) to allow muscles or joints to become loose.

This workshop will focus on the importance self care at home and in the workplace by teaching participants to use foam rollers simply by using their own body weight on the rolls. The benefits include reducing pain and tension, restoring normal muscle length and gaining balance. You will learn that by gaining muscle balance, you will gain joint motion leading to decreased pain and tension. You will be amazed!
These exercises can be performed individually, anywhere. Leslie also offers modified versions of each stretch to accommodate each individuals need. Each participant will be given handouts of some simple techniques for soft tissue care.
Essential Oils Healing
Essential oils were used in ancient times to lift the spirit and increase the energies of the body. The Bible contains many examples of oils being used to anoint and cleanse the body. The beautiful ritual of applying oils was practiced with the purest intentions in the hope of bringing great joy and relief to both those who gave and those who received it.
Leslie Heinze brings The Raindrop Technique to Emerald Retreat Therapy. This essential oils technique uses a sequence of highly antimicrobial essential oils designed to simultaneously reduce inflammation and kill the viral agents responsible for it. The principle oils used are: thyme (Thymus vulgaris), oregano (Origanum compactum), wintergreen/birch, cypress (Cupressus sempervirens), peppermint (Menthapiperita), basil (Ocimum basilicum), and marjoram (Origanum majorana). The oils are dispensed like little drops of rain from a height of about six inches above the back and massaged and lightly brushed along the vertebrae until they are absorbed into the skin, infusing the body with their positive properties. Although the entire process takes about 45 minutes to complete, the oils will continue to work in the body for 5 to 7 days following treatment, with continued re-alignment taking place during this time.
